About Rusfond-Marathon charity campaign

28th Marathon Des Sables took place in Morocco from 5th to 15th April 2013. It is considered to be a toughest foot race in the world (athletes run 250km in Sahara desert)

Each runner can not only challenge his or her endurance but can also run for a reason. Thus Vladimir Voloshin who participated in MDS back in 2013 had started charity campaign naming it Rusfond-Marathon and had raised RUR 1’661’430 which was enough to help 11 kids.

Oleg Samokhvalov and Rinat Mustafin who taking part at 30th MDS start continue Vladimir’s initiative by arranging charity campaign in helping Nikita Gerasimov (Moscow region, 1.5 years old, suffers from complex congenital heart disease).

Multi-day ultramarathon will take place from 3rd to 13th April and athletes will finish 250km in Moroccan Sahara desert within 6 days.

Rinat Mustafin

Rinat Mustafin descends from Tashkent, USSR. Graduated from secondary school in 1995 Rinat had entered to State University of Management in Moscow in 1996. Two years later he started to work in one of the leading aviation insurance teams in Russia. After graduation from university in 2001 Rinat had joined Malakut Insurance Brokers and very soon became one of the company’s shareholders. In 2009 he moved to Dubai to establish and run Malakut Group’s insurance brokerage entity which is in charge of the Group’s operation in MEA market.

Rinat is an amateur triathlete since 2013. In June 2014 Rinat was among first Russians to swim all the way across the Straits of Gibraltar (17km). Same year he finished his first Ironman distance at Mallorca (10h32m) and was on his first podium at one of international triathlon races in Dubai. Rinat is taking place at Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Austria on 30th August 2015. Rinat is married and raises 4 sons. Besides triathlon he is passionate go-kart racer, snowboarder and shotgun shooter.

Oleg Samokhvalov

Oleg was born in Moscow in 1969. Since he was a child he liked and actively practiced sport. He was 2nd at Sports Rock’n’roll National Championship in 1991. He then supported this sport for more than 10 years raising sponsorships of National Championships, World Cups and World Championship held in Russia for the first time. In 2003 Oleg came into cyclic sports –cycling, then running and later triathlon. He has completed Tour Transalp on road bike two times – in 2009 and 2011 and successfully finished two Ironman races in 2013 and 2014

Oleg had established Malakut Insurance Brokers in 2000. He also co-shares businesses in sport field – a health club and climbing wall club in Moscow.

In 2013 Oleg and Rinat have decided to bring Ironman into Russia. They have established an entity called Triathlon Leader LLC together with a few other partners. The company organizes triathlon races and training camps under IRONSTAR brand in Russia and abroad. First IRONSTAR races will take place in Sochi and Moscow in 2015.

Oleg is married, raises 4 sons.

Nikita Gerasimov,
one and half years old, complex congenital heart disease, needs open heart surgery at the Asklepios Hospital (Sankt Augustin, Germany). € 43,100.

I learned about Nikita’s terrifying diagnosis when I was pregnant. Doctors said he would need three or four operations in the future. But the main thing for us was to save our son’s life and health. Nikita’s first operation was performed at one of the Russian federal cardiac centers. Thanks to that first surgery, our boy lived and began to grow. Unofficially, we were told that it would be better to continue treatment of such a complex heart defect in Germany, so we sent our son’s medical records to the Asklepios Hospital in Sankt Augustin, Germany. We raised funds with the help of caring people and, in March of last year, Nikita had his second operation. Now he faces the most important, final stage of surgery. But we cannot afford the hospital’s new invoice. I spend all my time with Nikita, my husband works assembling furniture and our income is small. Please help Nikita, he is a very cheerful and sociable boy who loves outdoor games. Without continued medical care, he soon won’t be able to run or even walk. Alina Gerasimova, Moscow region.

Asklepios Hospital cardiac surgeon Victor Hrashka (Sankt Augustin, Germany): "Nikita has complex congenital heart disease. A year ago, the boy had his first stage of surgical treatment at our hospital. Thanks to this operation, he began to develop. Now he is ready for the second phase. Hopefully, Nikita’s condition will improve dramatically".
